Seen a lot of people fish for 'em....some niced sized fish. The rig I see them use is a dropper weight with a hook further up the line. They use pile worms, bits of clams, things like that. Lean over the rail and work the water column up and down along the piling.

Pile Perch??  Are those any good?  I'll have to check that out.  Looking for something to go fishing for Saturday Morning.  I cannot be more than 45 minutes (or so) from the Chico area this weekend though because of work.

Do Pile Perch go by any other names?

Smossy, thanks for the map.  Feel like teaching me how to fish up here?
As far as going by any other names, I have no Idea but Im sure they do. I talked to the locals who eat them, they said they just remove the heads, gut them, then fry them whole and they're really delicious. Im going to try it soon as to theyre virtually impossible not to catch this time of year. Small lightweight pole, Lightweight line, small 6-10 hook herring jigs that come pre-made. With a weight on the bottom, just jig it frantically. No bait needed, The herring jigs come with tiny tiny hooks that have little wing looking things on each hook. Thats all u need.
U can catch them on trout hooks and muscles though, hard to hook them though without a super tiny tiny tiny hook.

If they taste anything like red surf perch, they I imagine they're amazing.  Kingston is about 45mins to 1 1/2 hours from me, depending if we use the narrows bridge or go all the way around by Olympia.

I must add, If your after JUST pile perch, go to the public dock in hoodsport, or kingston.
Hoodsport under the floating dock there was literally probably close to a thousand pile perch that just hang out under that thing and eat whatever comes into the water.
One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.

We use to use clam necks and catch a ton of pile pearch from the little fishing pier below and to the east of the Warren Ave bridge (downtown side of the bridge). The current goes through Rich passage at like 7 knots, so it can feel like river fishing for stealhead at times, LOL
