Trying to decide on boots, narrowed it down to:
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:09:11 PM »
I am trying to buy some boots for backcountry Deer, Elk, and backpacking. I have been looking at Lowa tibets, and rangers. Zamberlan (all of there hunting boots). Asolo (all of there boots) and Vasque Clarion GTX, and wasatch. Anyone have any experience with any of these?

The vasque gtx did me great for three years. Just had them resoled. Not as much ankle support as my new kennetreks but still a good boot
It is what you meant it to be...

I had some vasque and was not crazy about them.  Wasn't a good fit for my feet.

I picked up some Zamberlans last year and really like them.  My father in law wears asolos and has had great luck with them.  Find a boot that fits your foot and can handle a heavy pack.  Poor ankle support without a pack is a bad combo with pack full of meat and gear.

I've had very good luck with Lowas.  Try them on and make sure they fit and then choose from that.

I have personally owned both the Vasque and Asolo.  The vasque  were extremely comfortable but they fell apart after two years.  My asolo have been amazing and lasted for the last 6 years.....best boot I have ever owned for packing.  Not the best for light day trips, they are to rigid.  Just two months ago I purchased some soloman  boots and so far love them.....only time will tell though.  The seem to have great support for packing up while not killing my feet on day hikes.  Definitely worth considering.

I have heard great things about the zamberlains.

I've been using the Lowas for years and will never look at another brand.

:yeah: Lowas are my choice, too.

Check out Elk Trackers by Irish Setter. They are the most comfortable footwear I've ever had.

I am a boot builder for whites here in spokane and I swear by the quality.  Other hunt washington members would agree, they are the last boots you will own. Check it out.  Every boot we have is all made by hand with the closest attention to detail.  Well worth the money.

The vasque were extremely comfortable but they fell apart after two years.

I had the same experience with my last pair of Vasques.
