food plot?
« on: September 08, 2013, 08:56:24 AM »
So the wife and I bought some acres in Eatonville, thick trees and ferns, vine maples and so on. one of my daughters just started hunting so I wanted to keep it simple for her before we head up into the mountains. so I put out some apples, had acouple deer come in, then I put out a salt block.... bad idea, its been weeks and nothing? nothing on the camra but the deer looking at it then there gone ugh? I see theres a butt load of deer feed and stuff out there! ive never used them before so I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on an item to put out so I can help my little girl get her first deer!? Like I said, ive never done this before, ive spent the last 23 yrs hunting crystal mtn, hikeing and climbing back in those hills so these low land small body animals are stumpin me??? what should I do??

Search the site for blacktail food plots. Lots of info. This late in the season I would try and find a bin of apples on sale and keep putting them out a pile at a time until your daughter scores! Blacktail love apples!!!!!

The time of year appears to make a difference for me. I use deer blocks from May through September and then start apples right after rifle season around the first of November. December 1st has marked the sign of the best activity on apples. If you have a late season on your property, start the apples in a semi thick area where the deer feel comfortable feeding during shooting hours. Try multiple locations and you will find the sweet spot. Get a ground blind, dress her warm, and your trail cam will tell you when to hunt. Good luck.

I leased 750 acres near Chehalis, so I will be up in WA a lot this year as well.

Here is my buck from Labor Day and a Trail Cam pic:

A nice Washington buck that I blew an opportunity on last year. He was in regularly and I should have killed him.

A couple of WA does you could set your watch by:

The buck my wife killed:

An Oregon spike that was a regular:

A good buck that 2 of my friends missed one of which is a professional hunter:

The buck my friend Ron killed last year.
