OK, AR gun build #2.
« on: September 18, 2013, 05:33:31 PM »
So, I bought my first a AR just over a year ago, .25 WSSM.

Then I built my first .556 this year and i am happy on how it turned out.................... and so is the wife.

Now she want one  :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: Naaa

I decided to build one for her and I will give it to her for Christmas  :peep:

I ordered a Poly Lower from Joe Bob's, they have one with the lower kit intalled for $79 shipped to my FFL of choice. She dont shoot a whole lot, so it will be a good test for the Poly lower for me.

I'm pretty sure I am going with the 6.8 Remington. She would love to hunt with HER gun, not just taget shoot, so I feel it would be a good choice.

We saw the "Mud Girl" camo furniture kit at Sportsmen's and she liked it, I will get that, pink Camo, how could I go wrong  :lol4:

6.5 GRENDEL or 243 WSSM would also make for a couple great choice. I built both over the 6.8 myself.

I contemplated both those calibers, but the ammo is hard to find. Even for reloading supplies, its hard to come by. The 6.0 Rem is more readily available and I think that was the deciding factor.

All the WSSM cartridges are hard to find, I know i, I have the .25 WSSM.

I just got into the 243 wssm not to long ago and know a place that has a unlimited supply of brass for the 243 wssm and it's pretty cheap. 6mm bullets are pretty much in stock any place right now. So don't let that scare you away. The 243 wssm will crush all of them even though I am a Grendel fan you cant get better hunting ballistics then the wssm's for a ar-15 hunting rifle.

Boy I sure wanted the 243WSSM, but found a DTech upper in 25WSSM for a price I couldn't pass up.  I love the gun, don't like the brass.  Put together two different 6.5 Grendels for my wife, (the first one was too heavy).  It's an antelope killing machine.

Got all the pieces and parts to do a 6mmAR side charger now.  For those who don't know; it's a 6.5 Grendel necked back down ...basically back to the parent benchrest cartridge; the 6mm PPC, but with a smidge more case length south of the shoulder for a little more capacity.

From all the research I've done, it should be very nearly as accurate as the 6PPC, and there are some of those PPC's in benchrest circles that make bughole group sizes measured in very small decimals.
Work to live, don't live to work.
