uh oh! Gutpile finally gets an elk!!
« on: November 02, 2013, 11:48:28 AM »
I hate pictureless threads but that's life, I'll update later. I hunted my ars off down in the blues and didn't see squat this year. Only a total of 4 animals two were massive bulls. We Got fogged in, froze, and poured on. I stayed one extra day and at 4:30 I tipped over a Spiker with the ole 7 mag. I bought it this yearfor elk and so far this season I've killed a bear, and antelope, a deer, and an elk. I loaded up 168 grn LR accubonds specifically with elk in mind. Anyhow I check one last clearcut and there grazes a cow and a spike. I needed to check to see if there were any branches so stalked in closer. I got to 350 and was pretty sure but I was scared to down an illegal bull so got closer. I got to 225 and was 100% sure but still scared. Oh crap!!! The cow busted me so I let rip. Perfect shot, broke the right leg and later found that the bulled deflated both lungs. It was standing stunned so I hit it again. This time a little higher and down her went. I quick gutted and skinned him and removed his head. I got out of the canyon well after dark and my partners about crapped when I walked up to the fire with a spikes head in one hand and a bottle of wild turkey in the other. Next morning it took two of us two trips and 4 hours to recover him. This is a hunt I wont soon forget. Ill get pics up asap but there aren't any real good ones of the bull. I just didn't have time as I was alone and losing light fast

This is the only pic I have on my phone I can download right now. Ill get a couple more later

grats ya it's been tough in the blues this year. you've seen more than I have just sign so far hopeing maybe last day tomorrow.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
