My trapping buddy went without me today because i'm at work.  He just sent me a pic of a mink we got today.  This trap has been out for close to two weeks with beaver meat in the trap.  We never did change out the beaver meat in those two weeks.  If we get anything else today I will post up the pics.

I'm happy to see everyone else is catching mink! They are making me look silly out there. I've tried every trick on this forum. Congrats!

I had one that killed some chickens, then escaped out of my coon trap twice, I then modified the door so it was wider, then he got the chicken bait out once more without tripping it before I finally got him.

How do you sin out those thin little tails without ripping the skin or losing the tip?

Slit the tail on the underside from the rectum for about an 1 inch and skin around so it lis loose all the way around tailbone.  then put  regular pliars around the bone so that the bone is encircled by the gap below the plier tips ..you can the grip the base of the tail in one hand and the pliers in the other then pull firm but slowly on the tail bone to pull it out do not force ..you can feel it when starts to slide easier.  Another tool that works great are the rabbit clip pliers used to build cages.  After pulling bone you slit the tail with a sharp knife. Be careful pulling on the tail near the base that you are not squeezing the gland ...stinky

Thanks, how much does it hurt the value to have the tail ripped a bit half way to the end?   :(  Sorry to threadjack a minute.   Anyone could PM info.   ;)

Should be no deduction.
A good tail slitting guide is the rib out of an umbrella.

Your not thread jacking that is what these threads are all about passing on good info and learning!!!! By the way I use a bench mounted tail de*censored* to get the tail out then a tail zipper or a carpet razor blade to split the tail.

Awesome, because this guy was huge.     Now I just need to get some traps out around the beaches and docks where I see them more.

Will a draw knife for working on logs work as a fleshing scraper?  The one I have has a small curve to it, but not a lot.  Now I just need to build a fleshing beam.

Draw knife would be to sharp. For mink I just use an old kitchen spoon and flesh them right on the mink board then pin them down

Are you getting those mink in baited sets or double door blind sets?

If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
