Late archery bowhunters
« on: November 25, 2013, 07:55:26 AM »
I finally was able to get out for a day.  Anyone who has not gotten out yet pray for snow. I could not believe how dry and crunchy the hills were, at least where I was. DId see a fair amount of bucks , I had 5 stalks that all were blown by fellow hunters. most were from guys who were just hunting and did not know there were deer around and I was putting on the sneak so cant blame them, thats hunting.. One My buddy and I were both trying to circle in on a buck. Just as I was getting in shooting position he took a shot and missed..  One guy was watching me for awhile from above and aparently got jealous and thought he could do better so he decided to join in. Guess what dummy you ruined both our chances.
But then there is the one that got away.. Saw this beast thru my spotter. My buddy was going to keep an eye on him and radio me if he bailed. It  Took me 2 hours to sneak in on him. I saw the doe  first then located the buck but could only see his antlers. I just needed him to stand up and I had him dead to rights. all of a sudden his antlers are gone. My buddy comes on the radio says another buck showed up just below and my buck charged at him and hit him with a ton of uphill momentem and knocked the smaller buck on his back.  fight did not last long. I missed it.. Guess thats Hunting..
Good luck to you others.

If you were in the Swakane unit (250) your doing better than me. 4 full days in various areas, most time spent up the entiat, many miles on the boots, hours of glassing, lots of does but not a single legal buck spotted. I have never had this hard of a time finding deer in this area. I do not believe that the majority of migrating bucks have arrived there yet, snow level is way too high still. (or i'm just a crappy hunter this year :chuckle:)   :dunno: :dunno:

Hay Canyon at Cashmere, I'm not bow hunting but there's some bucks in there right now. Plenty of does. ;)

Lots of does and small bucks up Hay, and LOTS of hunters! One legal buck, but not the big ones in there yet. Maybe after Turkey day?

Did not say there were no bucks in there, just not the caliber that will be in there later. Yes, i was there today for 8 hours..and the day before, and before that..just hoping for some snow and some bruisers to chase around.

Several bruisers were shot during rifles season in there, allot of those bucks are local. It doesn't have to snow to score a good buck. The snow sure helps later but there are quality bucks in there year around and that's a fact.

I watched my share of nice Mulies that still had a ways to go growth wise in there earlier in the bear season. Guess it's another 8 hrs tomorrow and the next and the next. ;)

Frustrating when other hunters foil a stalk inadvertently...its the ones that do it on purpose to try to " beat you to him" that angers me. So often, its the extra set of ears and eyes that mess it up! Lol!

If your hunting overthere I guess you have to get used to the people screwing up your hunt.happens to me every year, had some clown honking his horn above me guiding his guys into a buck that I was waiting for him to make a move. He had 15 does with him on a wide open hill side so they pushed him out trying to get close to him. To many eyes. I finally scored a good 3x4 on Saturday there are bucks out there just mild weather has not a lot of migrators down. Even with all of the clowns out on late archery I still love it.
