Howa Hogue????
« on: February 10, 2014, 08:08:15 PM »
Anyone have any experience with this model of rifle?? I have been giving them some thought, opinions would be great  not so concerned about caliber, just an overall opinion of the rifle itself. Haven't made up my mind on what to get yet anyhow

I have a Howa 1500 with the hogue stock in .308 and love it. I am thinking about getting the stainless in 300wm. Great gun for the money.

Had a heavy barreled varmint in 22-250. The Nikko scope version.went to the range with some favorite handloads of 40 gr V-max's full of Varget. No initial cleaning, no break in. Sub 1/2" groups, with some at 1/4"! Great gun!

Hogue makes good stuff.  The Axiom stocked models are another thing--some like them, and some hate them.  Never owned either one, so I can't opine...  :dunno:  :chuckle:

I have a Howa/Hogue in 30-06.  The gun is a great gun.  I load ammo for it, and I can usually get around 3/4" groups.  I love the gun for hunting, its easy to carry, good price, accurate gun.  However, the hogue stock that it comes with is a very flimsy stock.  I put a bipod on the stock and I could flex my stock easily to where it would touch the barrel.  I started looking into getting a different stock for it, and unfortunately there are not a lot of choices for the Howa 1500 long action.  I bought the gun when I first started getting into hunting and it was more than sufficient for what I needed to do then.  But now, I have gotten into precision shooting, and am capable of taking a lot longer shots, and so I will be purchasing a different gun that will better fill this role.  But I won't get rid of the Howa.  Great gun, but if you have any plans of building it up at all, save your money and buy a Remington 700.
