Bluing, Cerakote, and Parkerizing?

Gorge Custom Coatings is the way to go. It is my cousin's business. I just got another rifle back from them and it's amazing! Melisa who is doing the coating is one of the most artistic people I know and she can do about anything you can dream up. They have good prices and quick turn around compared to a lot of the bigger shops. You will be happy if you use them.

So does cerakote look the closest to a blued gun? Or does parkerizing?

Cerakote is more of a textured finish.

Blued is just steel that has been colored. Why the cerakote is a finish added on top of the steel.

It would seem it would chip easily, rubbing against a tree or something out in the woods, No?

It's a pretty tuff finish. I will be putting them to work this year.

Cerakote is tough stuff! As soon as I get caught up on some bolt rifle projects , I'm going to have Gorge Custom do some AR stuff for me in Titanium and Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Actually a mix 60% Burnt Bronze & 40% Black. They said they could swing it, no problem.

I went with midnight blue and it almost looks like bluing, I put it through its paces this year and it still looks brand new.

Parkerizing is a milspec coating that is applied to ferrous steel. It does not look like bluing, it's more like a rough grey or black depending on whether it's Zinc or Mag phosphate.

Cerakote a has a midnight blue that is very dark and glossy and looks a lot like traditional blueing.
