I've considered applying there. I understand it is steep and rugged.

I live in the unit and have been spotting them from my front porch as of late. I would love to draw it some day. Lots of goats and some rough country, as expected for a goat hunt.

I will say there is a lot of checker board public/private in this unit. Be sure to do your research. A lot of peaks in the crazies (goat country) are under private ownership by certain corporations.

ok thanks Deerslyr-We deer hunt on family members ranch right at the base of the crazies but I have not been up into the mountains in years. Was wondering about access(might be an issue?) and also  the qaulity and number of goats. Sounds like its a good one, thanks for the advice. Still like to hear from someone who has drawn the tag.

Theres a ton of goats, the quality is Ok, not as good as the bridgers from what I hear though. And the access is not real great. There's 4 main access points into the mountain range.

From the east, Big timber canyon.
From the SW out of Clyde Park, cottonwood bench.
Further north out of Wilsall, shields loop.
And from Highway 12 on the north end, the Forest Lake area.

The biologist for this area (Karen Loveless) is very knowledgeable and willing to help you out from my experience.

Somthing I've also heard over the years is to go early. The weather can change in an instant in those mountains and push you out of goat country. It also can get pretty crowded. Montana gives out 75+ tags in that unit, more than double the next highest unit at 35 in the Absorokas. Good luck in the draw and keep us posted.

Saw this group in the Crazies in August a few years ago at about 9,000 ft.  They aren't all in the picture, but there was 33 total, 24 adults and 9 kids.
