changes to Montana bighorn
« on: April 23, 2014, 12:30:55 PM »
I applied last year for the first time. Last year I believe had to front the entire cost of the tag, $750, but I don't remember how much I paid in non refundable costs for the point. was it $50??  :dunno:

Seems like there are some changes this year... I called and she said I'd have to pay $50 for the point, $10 per species app, and $20 for the conservation license. So a total of $80 a year to buy points for one specie.

Trying to evaluate the changes and see if its worth staying in the game.

Last year it was $20 for the point and like you said you had to front the tag fee. This year you don't get anything refunded but you don't have to put up as much either. This will probably make the odds worse just like when WA used to require $100 for the OIL tags up front. The odds went to hell when they started requiring the app fee only.

Thanks

I decided to punk out this year. Only had one point so I guess it wasn't much lost.

I had 6 point for sheep and moose. I dropped out. I stayed in for mountain goat. To much money to do all three.

I had six and bailed as well.  With them going to squared points last year and increasing the cost of applying to $70 per species I said no more.

I bailed this year.

I'm at 13 for moose & sheep, I believe that is max. and I'm at 9 for goat so I'm kind of committed now, had to stay in. It is getting old this whole, got too many points to bail now, thing. Time to do some serious re-evaluating after this year.
