Any monroe hunters hunting the sultan basin area today? Clock is ticking.

I ran into several North Skagit bear hunters while out hiking last week. It's looking like a low harvest rate this year.

I didn't see anyone out today. I saw quite a bit of fresh sign, but didn't see any bears. I'm looking forward to  August.

When I talked to the biologist they said 4 down as of a week ago, I  ran into only two other hunters with that tag this year.

Skagit hunt was pretty brutal spent 11 days total up there saw 2 little bears and did a lot of walking on them logging roads!!! Seen more elk than anything! And several bobcats. Spring is much different than fall bear hunting!!

Talked to the biologist yesterday, he said there were 6 bears reported as harvested by spring bear tag holders in the Skagit... not a very good year.  Saw several bears, most were sows with cubs.  Never got a shot opportunity on a bear without cubs.  Guess I will have my tags for Aug 1... did find a fawn that was torn in half, it was very fresh, blood was still pooling where it was ripped apart.

3 Friends of mine had the Skagit tag ...only 1 got a bear ...I am not sure if the dept wants to really kill a few bear or they just want the money in their pockets from guys wanting a tag ... If they really want to kill a certain amount of bear on these spring tags they should allow baiting and hound hunting  :dunno: How many tags in Skagit ? 50 or So ? And only killed 4 or 5 bear  :yike: Since most of it is timber company maybe the timber company should allow baiting and set up bait sites and sign each tag holder to one ..and maybe let the hunter bait his own site  :twocents: There is so much brush on the wetside that the only chance you have is if you see him in the road ....

You must have spooked the bear off. I'm surprised he left the fawn behind.
