Sitka Ascent Pants
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:43:55 PM »
I may have finally found the best July-September hunting pants for the way I hunt. I'm help Gore test gear and provide feedback as a Hunt-tech and got a chance to take my ascents out the other day on a 80* - 8 mile hike with 3000 ft elevation gain with about half of it being off trail.

In the past I have used Kryptek, cabelas microtex and currently use the Sitka mountain pants.

These pants did much better regulating my heat and provide even more unrestricted movement. Another advantage over the Mountain pants for me was how quick they dry. We had to go through some snow and wet brush and literally walked them dry within 10 minutes.  If the temperatures are going to dip into the 60s and 70s I will probably reach for the mountain pants but if the temps will be in the 80s and 90s I am going to be grabbing my ascents this year.

How do they work for mosquito control?

My Tiburon pants keep me much cooler in hot weather compared to my Ascent pants.  IMO, KUIU is a step ahead in hot weather pants.

I've never used the Kuiu Tiburon pant.  How are you liking the 2way stretch of the tiburon compared to the 4way of the ascent?  I need all the extra movement/flexibility I can get through the thighs.

I also wear the Ascent pant when in a hot box blind in WY antelope hunting.  Sitting in a 110 degree hot box with very little ventilation can make life quite uncomfortable.  Especially when sitting from sun up to sun down.  Then when a 'lope appear you have to slide down onto your knees.  In jeans that can sometimes seem an impossible task when they are soaked with sweat!  The Ascent pants dry so fast they almost never get soaked and the flexibility allows me to drop to my knees quickly and quietly.  Especially on those days when I wake up from a nap to find a big buck already at 10 yards!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
