Upper puyallup River Public area
« on: July 16, 2014, 05:23:31 PM »
Hey guys, I've been scouting for areas that could possibly hold birds and I began looking at the upper puyallup river area outside of orting near electron. Theres a series of yellow gates along the side of the river and I think I have seen hunters back there before. Is it considered public land therefore open to hunt? I've been striking out with landowners, so Ive been trying to find public areas that might hold some birds.

i've driven the orville road a few times and could've sworn most of the area was posted "pierce county property - no trespassing" or something to that effect :bash:

Okay! I thought rivers were all public land! I'll do a little more research though.

I've driven all along there. It's pierce county land. I called to try to get access and was told "under no circumstances would hunters or any recreational use of this property be allowed."

Rivers are public to the high water mark in Washington. Whether or not you can hunt the specific area you're talking about is unknown to me.

I would like to specify if public doesn't mean or gives us access.

man, that's idiotic.  seems like more and more public land being closed down to any sort of access.  i've noticed this a bit in thurston county in places i used to fish as a kid, mostly getting designated "protected wetlands".

It made me really frustrated. All that land just sits doing nothing. Most of it would be done good duck hunting!
