Luck yes, bull no. I was given a great opportunity at a mature cow and decided to end the bull hunt. In the 4 days we were out we did not see or hear any bulls.

Friend had the tag. Started off battling the crowds with not much action but after some friendly advise, he got into the bulls. Missed a bull he estimated in the 330 range and had another chance but no shot at a smaller bull the last saturday evening.

Not very crowded off the 1701 rd. Seen some small bulls and very quiet in there, only cows talking.

Didn't hear a thing the first week. Second week, a few bulls were bugling until about 10am each day. Got into elk almost every day. Stuck a cow at 5-6 yards and missed a 3x3 buck that jumped the string at 38 yards.

I hunted last four days of season.  Too dang hot before that and had to work. Got into multiple bulls every day.  Last thursday seemed to be turning point for bugling and bulls became more vocal. A few over 300 would guess. 2 were monsters. Under30 yds a number of times but no shots on a number of bulls. Could not convince them to come out of thick stuff and leave cows. They would bugle, chuckle, thrash brush etc but would not leave the thick stuff, reprod where visibility less than 5 yds.

Passed on cows and small bulls .

Exciting hunt though.  :tung: they need to push season at least a week forward as most on here would agree.

That is the primetime for them.   The muzzleloaders have the best time slot for that area

Pm me if you want a few suggestions for friend. I know one really nice bull I encountered and would not leave a deep bowl/canyon

Found some great bulls and the 16 year old kid I was with took a spike for his first ever elk.  Wish he would have held out but he was was a happy hunter who enjoyed his hunt and enjoyed being close to some good bulls

There are lots of elk in there. Most people just don't hike more than a mile from their trucks.
