Shutter noise

Just curious what kind of cameras you guys are using? Recently I went up just to photograph elk with my Nikon and couldn't get over how loud my shutter is when you have elk up close.. Nothing says "hey here I am!" Like click click!

You can't really beat a DSLR for wildlife and action shots. Mirrorless/CSCs have come a long way but are nowhere near as responsive. I ave a Canon 6D which fortunately has a silent shutter setting. It cuts down how fast you can take rapid fire shots but has markedly quieter shutter noise. I'm guessing most of the newer dslr models today feature something like this.

Tip: try using your mirror lockup function if you don't have the silent shutter and funds don't allow you to move up.

I have a Nikon D50 and yeah, that is a really loud shutter. I just started looking at the newer models of Nikon. That is a real nice feature Canon has Beancounter. I'll have to check out Nikon now a little closer.

They seem to be getting better each model, but yep, that has spoiled many of shots I am sure.

Just to be clear. Don't buy a 6D if you're a wildlife or serious action shooter. It only has one cross type auto focus point which sucks for tracking moving subjects. Id look into the 7D Mark II.

You buy a full frame camera like a 6D or a Nikon 610 for shooting in ridiculously low light without a tripod. ISO 16,000 looks great!

5D3 has a silent shooting mode.  Slows you down to 3fps but is super quiet.  I'll never give up this camera unless the new one has this feature.  I use it all the time on skittish wildlife such as:
