what are your opinions
« on: November 01, 2014, 09:54:19 AM »
I've been wanting an AR for a while and based on price point alone I have been looking at DPMS. I usually go with the you get what you pay for school of thought, but I have also seen some pretty favorable reviews. I would be looking to use it mostly for recreation, but would also want to hunt deer with it. If I can save a few hundred to put towards a scope I'm all for it, but don't want to buy a POS either.

.223 isn't legal for deer so be sure to get a bigger caliber if that's what you want to do...

Order one of these
https://newfrontierarmory.com/shop/lw-15-complete-polymer-lower-receiver/

And one of these
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/247795/dpms-ar-15-a3-upper-receiver-assembly-300-aac-blackout-16-barrel-glacierguard-handguard-single-rail-gas-block-a2-flash-hider

You'll be into it for $580 and you'll be able to shoot deer and plink. Optics will mount easy and you can pick up a 223 upper from palmetto for like $200 so you can plug and play for cheap.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

I would get on CDNN's email list and buy a Colt 6920 for $899.  The Colt will hold its value much better and you won't have much of an issue getting rid of it if need be.  DPMS just isn't a high quality rifle especially the Sportical.  If you have to save money I would go with a Bushmaster, they had them on sale at CDNN for $599/$699.

If your going to hunt deer with it. Several barrels are readily available. The 6.8 SPC or the 6.5 Grendel/ .264 LBC(Ammo is compatible in both the Grendel & .264 LBC) For in close there is always the 6x45, AKA 6mm-.223. BlackHole Weaponry does these chamberings and makes a excellent , accurate polygonal barrel.

:yeah: Either would be a fine choice. I just did a super light build in 6x45 and am really liking it. I still like my Grendel better because of the range I can get out of it.
