I'm 70 short
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:35:18 AM »
You know I try to get about 500 bucks every fall during my vacation.   I am 70 short of my goal.  I decided with the fire this year and some other factors I would be lucky to get half that.   I guess so far I am doing well.   I have a couple days left.  We'll see if I get the goal.   The calendar is together, and now I am only upgrading.   I wanted a snow pic, but Mother Nature isn't making that happen.

Are you still seeing many deer? I was out for a cruise here Saturday and the rut was going very strong.

Yes, but in short its stalling a bit with the big bucks.  I had a banner day even with the blue bird skies, but the were mostly smaller mid range bucks.  I should be out there today........

This buck, who was very active the week previous was just filling his belly.  He looked up just about the time a smaller buck mounted up.  I took this shot, then he went back to eating.

It will be good next year.   It was nice that it got moisture at the end of October, but its not going to help winter at all.  They also flew and reseeded it.   I wonder what seed they spread?

Personally I think the fire killed way more deer than they are admitting.

What makes you think that?

Acute lack of normal deer in non migratory sections, or migratory sections from areas of the burn that are vacant.

Nice Pics Bone. I will say I was at 5000 ft hiking this weekend and the deer are still up there. As long as the does stay up there some of the bucks will too. There was just a dusting of snow at that elevation

Gonna be in Winthrope for thanksgiving hopefully the snow will still be light, have always wanted to drive some of the high country to check it out this time of year.

deer looked to be filling up with new growth during fall but you are right no way will it help this winter. Also I don't know what you think but I would say the fire around the north end claimed a lot more then it should have. Saw a lot of carcasses.

9,000 acres have been seeded with around 13,000 lbs of blue and wheat grass seeds in the Frasier, Cow, and French Ck areas.

They caught some on Bear and some on Benson as well.   Took me a minute to realize why I was being bombarded :chuckle:

The migration is being driven by a different force this year, not snow but Ice.  With the deep freeze, water sources are freezing solid.  It was cold enough that while hiking, my damn water bottle froze in my pack.   Deer are really going to start getting slammed on the hiway.  Neophytes will be (oh the deer are starving that's why they are crossing the road)  Well, no, they are thirsty and heading for the river as many of the springs and feeder streams etc, are froze solid.  Strong running water is their only source Until we get some snow on the ground and the freeze lets up.

Yes!   I was holding out for a snow pic, but I have a couple extra frost pics I am going to use instead.  I picked up two calendar worthy pics yesterday.  I think will be awesome
