Mulie Books

I am sure this topic has been covered somewhere on this forum at some point in time; however, I wasnt able to find a decent thread within my searches.  So this 2014 season I had tag soup but I was hunting a new species in a new area that I was not familiar with.  I did a lot of research on Whitetails for this year and it made me realize...I really dont know as much about Mulies as I thought.  Can you fine people recomend some reading materials specifically geared toward Mule Deer hunting?  I would like topics like behavior, eating habits, maybe tactics, and maybe something on becoming a better tracker to be covered (not necessarily all in 1 book).  Ready and GO!

Eastman's have several mule deer books that cover everything you mention. A few are Public land mulies, High country mule deer and mule deer hunting tactics, great books. Here is one I got learning from them.

Valerius Geist is probably the foremost biologist in regards to deer, plus him and his wife are great photographers.   They have multiple books out which study the biology of them. Less about tactics, more about learning your prey.   I basically swallowed everything up I could find on the subject back in the day.   If I can think of any others, I'll try to come back and post.    My library is currently in boxes.

Well I imagine if it made enough of an impact on you, to remember it off hand, Bone then it is definitely worth my time.  BTW love you photography, wish I had time for that.

Horseeker and I were crazy about gathering anything we could.  I don't know that we were looking for anything particular but were just fanatics.  Hes more of a people person than I am, so I'd say he got more from face to face interactions, and I got more from reading and insight from growing up in muley country.    Theres a lot of crap out there and a lot of know it all's that try to make a buck so get what you can out of everything you find.  I find I get more tidbits from here and tidbits from there then ever getting the whole big picture from one source.

My opinion only here, I think the best book on mulies is the one you write yourself. Yes there are some books out there but for me at least its the experience of chasing them around,watching them,taking notes how they act and react in every situation and under all conditions. Like bone said also,picking up tidbits from here and there. Reading is a good thing for sure but nothing like the time and effort you put into it on their turf, just you and them

I believe this is the best book for learning about hunting mule deer.  Val Geist and Jim Heffelfinger are my top choices for deer biology.

Thank you all for your input.  Most of my hunting experience has been in mulie country and blacktail county.  I know the books arent going to point me to the deer like a compass but the knowledge gained will be timeless and something I can pass on to my son.  Keep the suggestions coming.
