Bow fishing/ hunting for turkeys

Was scanning channels when I came across a show and they were shooting turkeys with bows.. Nothing new right. These guys had bow fishing gear on their bows.. Is  this legal here?

Thats what I was thinking, you should PM bigtex for an answer.  I'm sure he knows.

I tried using a string tracker, dont know if it would have helped (damn Easterns  )
Only tried it at a target, concept seems sound, but in practice the string was a pain after shot.

I'm new to the bow hunting turkeys thing, but The one I stuck last year fell over dead upon impact.  My question is do they normally run off after impact?

Seems like a problem waiting to happen depending on the setup. Hunting out of a ground blind for example - I'd be worried the string/rope wouldn't completely carry over the opening in the blind creating friction and altering the flight of the arrow.

They were using string trackers. I have never used one but just like a Deer or other game, they react or escape depending mostly on shot placement. Bone breakage or vitals drops them. Gut shot or body they can run or fly. If you make a bad hit and he flies, depending on cover, can be really tough to find them. If he runs, you can usually blood trail them.

If you want a good time, use a stick bow with no blind

Been trying with my recurve, no blind.
Only way I have had an opportunity was while they were in the tree. 
Cannot bring myself to do that.
Not sure how much fun it is, currently 0:5.
Sure kill a lot of stumps though...

I did the spot and stalk for three weeks, its right up there with bugling elk in my book.  Hear a gobble and put on a stalk. I lost 7-8 arrows but man it was fun!

Shot a turkey a couple years ago that ran about 100 yards and piled up even though the broadhead went through a lung and sliced his neck.  It was a very lethal shot but they can move quickly before dying.  String tracker would have helped me find him a LOT sooner.  Took like four hours 

Last year I stuck one that was facing me head-on.  The arrow went in right at the base of the neck and out the b-hole.  He jumped about 8' in the air and hit the ground dead    Turkeys are just tough, tough birds.

I've been shooting at a lot of turkey with my bow with no luck yet.  I too have lost multiple arrows.  I have not been using a blind, just spot and stalk and a lot of sitting.  The closest I got was a bunch of feathers but no blood.  Good luck everyone.

Haha, they better.  Or else I'd be contacting Mr Van Dyke, whoever that is

Hmm...  Lots of shot opportunities at Easterns sounds like a good turkey hunter but you should really get into an archery shop.
