Washington State Gun Laws
« on: January 07, 2009, 10:25:42 PM »
I was just watching "Dawg Bounty Hunter" and started wondering about gun laws in our state. Something that I think of often but have never really looked into. I figured some of you guys would know alot more than I would. I always see in movies or on tv about people not having permits for their firearms, but I have never heard of anyone I know needing a permit.

Do you need a license or permit to own a firearm in Washington State?

Do you need to register your firearms?

Is Open-Carry of firearms legal?

Is it legal to own an Assault Rifle or such, like an AK-47 or an SKS?

How about handgrenades?

If any of these are illegal, what are the penalties?

open carry is legal, assault rifles are legal, have to have a permit for concealed carry, as far as I know you don't have to register firearms but they do a background check to make sure your not a felon and I am guessing grenades are illegal.

Look up RCW 9.41

...Suppressors are legal HOWEVER state law prohibits using it on a weapon. I've been all over trying to be legal to use one on Yotes. CANT BE DONE IN WA LEGALLY.

"Washington allows ownership of a firearm silencer, but using one is prohibited by RCW 9.41.250(3) which makes it a gross misdemeanor to "Use any contrivance or device for suppressing the noise of any firearm."

Dumb law, and from what I'm told it is always going up in from of state legislature to be over turned, but gets shot down each time

I was trying to find something on grenades and the only thing I can come up with is that it fits under explosives. The RCW 70.74.135 which states that you have to apply to purchase explosives and gives a list of questions to fill out in the application of purchase. My guess is you would not be able to get them.

My guess about the hand grenades is that is you did try to buy or came into possession of some the ATF would be up your ass with a microscope asking questions. Since the Homeland Security Act they are pretty particular on who plays with what. It's might be best to stick to M-80's  :chuckle:
