Opening day 4x4. 40 yard shot. Was a quick hunt. He was the biggest of the 5 bucks that were together.

Not much of a story.... was going to wait till late season to go out after deer. My boss called me up and wanted to get out of town and go deer hunting for one day. We left puyallup at 3am. Headed over to a spot I like to take some freinds and my son in the early season to fill tags on does. We got over there at 615am. Drove up to one of the canyons I usually see deer in everytime I go. We drove up the road and saw 2 small bucks and a bunch of does. Ended up at the end and of the road. We went out for a hike. We walked all over the ridge line glassing . Didn't see anything at all up on top. We figured they just wernt in there. We talked it over and decided we would head way up high and see if we could find something better. Got in the truck and started heading down. 10 min into the trip down we had 2 does run in front of the truck. Took a few pics of them and headed down. A few min later we saw Der up on the side hill. We parked amd got out to glass. It was 5 bucks. I grabbed my bow and started in there direction. I was able to sneak up to 40 yards. I pulled back and let one fly. It was a good shot. He was facing uphill quartering away. It was a little low of a shot. Was a pass through. Was about 8 in behind the right shoulder and came out just behind his left shoulder.  He took off and 40 yards later he dropped being some buck brush. I was all excited. We gave him a few min and didn't see him get up so we figured he was expired. When I walked up to where he fell I see antlers facing my direction.  I got my range finder out and he was 28 yards bedded down facing uphill. Looking back at me. Only *censored* I really had was the neck shot. I stuck another arrow in him. Pass through. He jumped up and ran 10 yards. He stood between 2 small pines. I figured he would just fall over but that didn't happen.  :bash: so I ranged him again. He was 43 yards away just standing amd not moving. I put another arrow in and *censored* again.  Hit him just in front of the left front shoulder and went through his right shoulder. You think that he would have just fell over dead. There was lots of blood from where he was first shot all the way to this point. As soon as the arrow hit him for the 3rd time he took off....  :bash: I watched him run 40 or so more yards behind some small pines. I could see all around the patch of trees. He never came out. I started following his path. I looked down the hill and there he was flat on the ground not moving at all. I thought finally he was done.. I got out my phone and started recording as I walked up to him. All of the sudden this amazing animal jumps up again. I couldn't believe it. He ran another 30 yards and stood on the side hill facing me. I was amazed at what was going on. It was so unbelievable to even me it was happening like this. He started to get wobbly and rolled down the hill... he did one complete roll amd he was back on his feet. He stood like that for 5 min. I side hilled above hime and shot yet again. Hit him through both lungs. And he dropped.

I still can't get over how this buck took all these shot to expire.  He was one tough buck!  I am very thankful for being able to have harvested him.
