« on: November 22, 2015, 02:46:33 PM »
You supporting Politicians and more nets in your rivers ? Or better yet , more closures and less fishing !!!!!!!!   I am sure this will get interesting !!! Only a couple reasons why our Wild Steelhead are declining ...Over harvesting in our Rivers do to netting and piss poor management ! But they continue to want our money and support !!!!!!  Do we want to continue to be stupid or send a message that we have had it !????   I personally have had it !

Why even bother when you can barely even catch a hatchery, or in fact, fish for them.

Here's an interesting rumor i heard, less than 10% of hatchery Steelhead are being clipped. I'm not positive its true but i don't doubt it.

My point is that they make it sound so true when its all a lie !!!  When I was back east last week I was so happy to see management being priority all around me ..Corn fields were all stubble - rivers and creeks were so clean ...gun fire heard from all direction --- people dressed in orange and camo and enjoying the outdoors .. The only reason we get anything here in Washington is because once we all quit they know they are screwed ..So they just give just enough to get your dollar ...Bottom line ..Up here were I live the elk are taking over ..we have no deer just herds and herds of elk ..The tribes own these elk ..so they say ...same with the river . If was no netting of our rivers we would have plenty of fish ..netting fish in their spawning grounds is just idiotic and whoever lets them continue to do so is the biggest idiot of all .. We should be catching fish and eating elk ... They are now making landowners split their damage tags ...So if 2 neighbors are having issues they can only kill one elk and split the meat 50/50 ...They also have to kill a bull ....5 pt or smaller and hand over the horns to the dept ... They figure we have to many bulls and want no cows shot ..So I see 70 head every morning and out of 70 head I see one bull !! now am I just stupid or should I head back to school ...

Washington Geographically has every thing. It should be unparalleled in the lower 48.
The problem is its run by money grubbin monkeys.

Honestly, why even try fishing for steelhead anymore, the chance of catching a hatchery is soo low nowadays that its not even worth it, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg to drive 100 miles to some part of the Columbia or snake river.

We have good fall salmon runs, almost too good.
Although, Its only going to be an amount of time until fall salmon become hatchery only.

Last time "R" had any pull in this state was 85 I believe. It's been swirling the drain since. :twocents:

85 is probably about the time  the effects of the Boldt decision started to be felt.
That would have given the chosen ones 10 years to rape and pillage the wildlife.

I moved here in 86 ..I got to see the better days of Washington ..That is why I stayed ! But now it is a tuff ride ..You have to really work hard to be successful here ..it will continue to get harder until someone steps in and says enough is enough ! We all need to be stewards of this land and we all need to do our part to conserve and manage fish and game together ..Not favor one group over the other . If that doesn't happen soon we will all pay the price ..No one minds spending money as long as it favors everyone ...in this case , it is not the sportsmen !

Not a chance, that supposed 200 will get pilfered off to 405,i90 or the colossal goat roping aka big bertha. My buddy works for fisheries, he's pretty close to dragging up to do septic systems after 15 years with the state. Some of his stories of what goes on would REALLY tick sports fishers off.

I'm 53 . Been here my whole life. Got a custom made "S glass " for my 12 th birthday
I've released more steelhead than most people will ever see. Grew up fishing and hunting the west side of the state. My family is from Selah so I know that side also.
In the last 30 years I've witnessed this state be destroyed by the people who claim to love it the most. Tree huggin moron Birkenstock wearing liberal idiots.
I'm sure people on here probably think I'm a wack job. I'm not. An don't care. If I really spoke my mind bob kitten would wet himself and I would be banned :chuckle:
Any way we're losing to these freaks and there's a lot of them on this very site. Time to wake up or it's going to be gone.
Rant over.

While I'm no fan of nets, we do have rivers that aren't netted, or netted very minimally, and their runs are in the toilet too. The Stillaguamish and Snohomish systems come to mind. No nets in them for steelhead. The Stilly tribe scheduled a winter net fishery a few years ago and none of their members even bothered to put a net in the water. The chum runs on both systems were ruined by non-tribal netters out in the salt. Kings aren't netted on either system, yet their numbers are in the crapper too.

saying that nets are a cause of all our woes is misdirected anger.  it's a big problem out on the coast, but hardly the limiting factor for puget sound rivers.  the sound is like a black hole for steelhead, and has been for at least 20 years now.  the smolts don't make it to the ocean.  the until they stopped planting it, the puyallup got almost half as many smolts as the cowlitz did some years, and after the late '80s hasn't didn't return more than a couple hundred hatchery fish, tops.  we can probably stick a fork in the puget sound rivers, unless something changes, they're all done for.

everywhere else, the big problem is, due to the new hatchery reform policies, rivers without collection facilities are in the crosshairs.  that's really lowered the experience in my opinion, because the way things are headed, you'll either be fishing some hatchery hole with a bunch of idiots(see: skookumchuck, or barrier dam) or not at all.  i miss fishing a lot of the little rivers that got smolt plants in several different areas(especially with private stocking programs), you could walk a couple miles of stream and have expectations of catching something.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
