Sorry, should have been more specific.  I hit a mud dauber hole at 600 yards.

Or maybe I missed completely - who could say?  :dunno:
More like rock quarry mine hole... Err,... Uhhh...
Never mind.   :chuckle:

I heard about a guy that was able to shoot a Chronograph that was 8 ft away  :chuckle:

...and it was only ethical because he was shooting a 26 nosler! And made sure everyone there knew how awesome he was!

Duh.  :chuckle:

To the original question, I think my farthest shot (successful) on a deer was right about 400.

80 targets from 100-500 yards. No misses.

Another vote for the Model 88, only in .284 Win. My wife gut shot a buck over in the Okanogan coulees. We got our hunting party together, 13 kids, wives & hunters and searched for it for a couple of hours in the sagebrush hills. We spotted it as we crested a hill and it took off running across the flat below, headed towards a fenceline which was posted no hunting or trespassing.

One of our troop took a couple shots with his Remington 700 in 7 mm mag, but you could see from the puffs in the dust he was way behind. Without much hope, I stood up and pulled down and ahead with the .284. My first shot was 10' behind. Second shot was 5' behind. Last shot (it only holds three) dropped the 2-pt and he rolled end over. We measured it at 375 yards downhill.

I couldn't have done it with a scope, 'cause I wouldn't have seen the dust puffs on the misses. Now, 30 years later, I'd be lucky to hit a safe shooting from inside with the door shut.

I would never attempt this at deer or any other game animal, but coyotes I don't care.  Last Febuary with my neighbor spotting for me, 1187 yds.  This last October 872 yds. both ate there last meals.  Both with a 243.

1st shot hits starting from 700 yards to 1400 yards I did shoot a 3 shot group at 1000 yards that measured 4 inches on a steel gong with my 280AI I think I got lucky with that group.

I can beat that.  I skidded a bullet along a friends chronie at 5 feet once.  It was the metal circuit paper one from light years ago.
