Apparently the sponsor of this bill will be running for Lt. Governor - Remember - and remember to vote -

http://housedemocrats.wa.gov/legislators/Jim-Moeller/

Anyone else find it ironic that this guy holds a license for Mental Health Treatment, but blames the gun when someone with mental health issues hurts people?

not likely no probably wringing his hand on the power he will have if this goes over.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

My response, Vehemently OPPOSE with extreme prejudice. Enforce current laws & enhance sentences for armed crimes. Don't tread on me or my rights.

May send the same about the ammo tax. I'm guessing everyone quit buying ammo in Seattle so let's make it state wide.  :bash:

I dont think this bill lists a tax amount.
That in itself is reason to oppose.

Got this email this morning.

Dear John ,

Thank you for your message. First, I want you to know that I will not support House Bill 2354 or any other legislation that could infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

Second, HB 2354 is like any House bill in that it must clear several hurdles before it could be considered here in the Senate. That means receiving a public (committee) hearing, then committee approval, then "yes" votes from at least 50 members of the 98-member House of Representatives.

Finally, even if the bill makes it before the full House, the 50 Democrats who constitute the House majority include several from rural districts. Their constituents may not view this issue the same way as the representative who filed HB 2354 - a big-city Democrat who just happens to be running for statewide office (lieutenant governor) later this year.

In the meantime, I will keep an eye out for any similar pieces of legislation from members of the Senate minority - and oppose those as well.

Respectfully,

Senator Randi Becker
2nd Legislative District

I happy to read such common sense from Olympia at a time when it seems so rare.

"Dear John,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding HB 2354, banning assault weapons and large capacity magazines.  I am adamantly OPPOSED to this bill.

Interestingly, the very definitions that Rep. Jim Moeller used in defining these guns as an “assault weapon” are the very thing that make it a safer gun to use by most people – especially women and those of smaller stature.  This bill is being directed mainly at the AR-15 rifle.  This particular rifle, along with its specific accoutrements is what makes it the best self-defense gun for women; very little recoil, a collapsible/adjustable stock so the gun fits a smaller stature, pistol grip for better control, and a quad rail to attach a light to illuminate the threat and reduce the chance of aiming the gun at something you shouldn’t.

Unfortunately, bills, initiatives, and laws like this are being perpetrated on law-abiding firearms owners across the nation.  I-594 already dramatically restricted our 2nd Amendment right last year.  You may not be aware, but I am a certified NRA instructor and became one to encourage firearm safety and training for those who are looking to further their expertise in the safe handling of firearms.

Rest assured – I hear you loud and clear – and stand strong right beside you.  I will do whatever I can to protect our 2nd Amendment rights should this bill make it to the House floor for a vote.  I will be a strong vote against it.

There is some good news.  I have heard the Chair of the Judiciary Committee may not hear the bill.  And even better news is this would never pass in the Senate!

Yours in service,

 Lynda

I contacted the NRA to ask what they were doing to help us here in Washington State. Their reply was pretty non-comittal. Basically just told me we all need to call Moeller.

I got replies from half I sent a message, the replies were of strong opposition.  The others I'm guessing might not be.

It will never make it to the House floor.

Sadly, I have to disagree.

How many previously unthinkable laws/policies have passed in the last few decades?

Just a few examples off the top:
1.  Gay marriage,
2.  Prosecuting florists/bakers that won't do gay marriages.
3.  Having "transgendered" guys shower with your 15 year old daughter
4.

I think the libs, including anti-gun libs, are patient and smart.    They might know it won't pass this time, but they are conditioning people so that it's no longer a shock.....

I've also been told by legislators this will not likely hit the floor of the House. If it does, it'll go down in flames.
