I would bet that areas like that with the tidal waters would be a killer spot for otters with drown sets.

Yesturday set muskrat trap in a pond out in the woods. Found fresh beaver activity so I set the Hancock trap. Then placed 2 bobcat traps and hung the beaver carcus from a tree. Just got back from checking nothing in bobcat trap, but didn't think I would get one that fast since I just set it up yesturday. But I did have a beaver in the Hancock trap, BUT I made a rookie mistake. I FORGOT THE SAFETY.  :bash: :bash: :yike: :yike: and the beaver set it off.  :bash:  Well live and learn. Lol reset the trigger pad and REMOVED SAFETY. Place and roughed up new apple branches. I also re-sented with  different sent caster. To mix things up since he already checked the first set out last night. He might think there are 2 beavers working the area and get him to go in the trap again. Crossing my finger.

Looks like a decent spot! Is there any new sign to let you know if theres any animals still in the area?
There was a little sign. Fresh banches chewed branches and tree. So I two traps and nothing the in 4 days. Haven't seen anymore fresh since but I will keep watching. There are alot of duck hunters in area. So the beaver might not be running around as much. Well I must sign off. I have to check my land otter sets

Ok just got back from checking the otter traps. First trap rats ate all the bait and tried eatting my fish decoy. Pulled up to check 2nd trap and door was shut  :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: but that lasted 2 seconds  the door was not lock down.  :dunno: pulled it out and all the bait was gone. Hmmmmm The 20 dollor trap couldn't hold what ever was inside her. The animal pulled one welded wire lose off the cage and pushed on frame and door. Just enough to jump the lock over the 1/4" round stock frame. Might just use this trap for rats and Squirrels. Lol another lesson learned.  :chuckle:

Both days and nothing. He is playing with me. I know he is watching me out in the pond some ware. Lol. Both days he cut branches and moved them 10ft from trap. Sented branches in trap with 2 different casters. Hopping to trick the beaver into thinking there are 2 trespassers in his house. Will see tomorrow. Going to bring a land trap with me to cover trail he is useing. Mybe I will land 2. Lol If this don't work I will move traps around and mix things up. Might put a apple slice in trap.

Hmmmm still no hits. The beaver is trap smart. So I moved it 50 yards and on a trail. The beaver had cut 2 branches down and took them away. So blocked his path with the Handcock trap. Camo'd it good and placed the muskrat traps apples and carrots in the beavers trap and put apple oil lure to to sweaten up the deal. Lol hope this works. Also bring out another trap to place on trail. Its been 5 day. Almost forgot nothing in bobcat traps. Hmmmmm If I don't get a hit or sign of tracks. I will pull them and find a new spot.

I finally caught him after 6 days. It took moving it onto land off a trail, and placing carrets, apples, and apple sent lure. It paid off with a fat one. So I reset and placed another trap. I put caster, apple sent lure, pears, carrets, and celery.  Hope to see 2 beavers tomorrow. Bobcat traps no good. 7 days and nothing. So I am pulling traps and placing 1 mile or more from the first spot.  I also camo'd it good to blend in. It was funny the trap sat for 4 day's and ever day. The beaver walked all over the area with out checking it out. Except the first night he was in my trap, but like I said forgot the safety and the beaver was educated after that. I am glad he let his guard down.
