338 lapua loads
« on: January 14, 2016, 02:27:32 PM »
I'm starting to become frustrated trying to work up a load for my lapua Ive tried h1000 v560 us869 from min to the max on loads with all three powders I've tried 225 and 250 grain accubonds 250 And 300 Berger otm and now today 300 Berger elite hunters. The best I've came up with was 88.5 grains of h1000 with 250 otm's which was right at 2.5" group at 200 yards. Which I couldn't duplicate again. Everything has been lapua brass with COAL at 3.681. I can't really go any longer since I'm running a box mag and I've tried shortening them up and it really didn't like that either. Is there anything that I'm missing or little secret with this caliber that I don't know that I should ?

Thanks caleb

My off the cuff I that you are too slow.

Any pressure signs at all?

I was shooting 225's with 100gr of H1000 in my 338 Ultra. But PLEASE do not use my load info. I would review published load data from a reputable source.

92.5gr of h1000 285amax. been a while since working up a load for that  gun but went through quite a few and that's where we wound up. 1hole at 200yds. spent to much time and powder on the 300 bergers

I have seen good results with 7828 in a lapua with 90 gr and 250gr...  This is also the powder I use in my 338rum..  I am pretty sure the 90 grains was first load they used and shot so well they didn't even try any other loads..

7828 has shined in my Super Magnums, especially the .375 Ultra Magnum with a 260gr Accubond on top of 102gr of 7828.

I tried I-7828 and Retumbo and settled on Retumbo.

I use a 300 grain Berger Hybrid OTM Tactical #33794, and load it up with 89.5 grains of Retumbo.  I use Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers, and I am getting 2780 FPS.  I am getting 1/2 to 1 MOA groups (which is about all I am capable of-the gun can do better).

Gun is an inexpensive Savage 110BA with a 26 inch barrel, and 1:9 twist.

You may want to play with your Overall Length to tune your load once you find a powder charge you like.  Extending or retracting your OAL may tighten up your group a little

Anybody play with 7828ssc ?

I have wanted to but have not shot up my current 7828..  Have heard you get about 50fps better with the ssc but have not tested that just read it somewhere.
