I deer hunt from a kayak. I am looking at a Tompson Center pistol in SS Any recomendations for cal ? How about red dot scopes? |

I have one in a 30-30 caliber. I have killed a bear, couple deer, and elk with it. It thumps pretty good. One of the bear I got with it was one that charged me from about 30 yards. that pistol basically saved my life. I have a 3x Burris on it. |

I'd get a caliber that is readily available in the store. I used to own a .357 Herret but traded it for the 44/410 barrel so I could buy ammo if I needed it quickly. I really liked all the fuss and stuff to get loads ready for the Herret but time is valuable. You really can't go wrong with the 30-30 there is also the 35 Remington but I believe the 30-30 is by far the most popular round out there. For scopes I am at a loss...for some reason I don't like using them. I have several scopes and several guns without scopes. I find I shoot the ones without scopes the most. :dunno: |

30 - 30 sounds good I was looking at a red dot scope for low light conditions in the brush, any comments? |

I've never used one, but it might be handy with that particular gun. Its a heavy SOB and hard to keep a good clear site with the scope at times, especially offhand. |
