Which pack ?!?! MR/Kifaru/exo

Well for someone who is in the market for a new pack this thread has been wonderful. I was already leaning toward kifaru but at close to $800 for a frame and bag needed more convincing. I will have to get in touch with corey at XXX and see what he can do fitment wise. I hear Aron at kifaru is pretty helpful too and good about responding.  Really like that multicam camo too.

its tough not getting the kifaru but I have 1,000 to spend and I also want a new rino 650, it's 400.  So I can get a Stone Glacier or kuiu AND get my gps.  Im not needing the best pack for what I do, but the SG or kuiu will do just fine and a bit cheaper.

Camofire has been having the mystery ranch marshal at 359. That is probably the best bang for the buck in new packs right now.

I believe I posted on here before, but didn't find it right away.  I bought the Stone Glacier Sky ARcher 6200, and thought I couldn't be happier.  And now I find myself upgrading the bage to the Sky Talus 6900, not because I need a bigger bag, but rather the configuration with the Spotting Scope pockets, and the center zip better suit my desires.  I haven't decided if I will be selling the Bag I have, but I may.  Bottom line is that there is a ton of trial and error that goes into customizing a pack the way you want it for you.  This frame should last me North of 10 years.  Only other modification is to buy a smaller belt as I am losing enough weight with the pack on in training that the belt I have may be too big soon.

[/quote]  I didn't make anyone buy anything.  We wanted to do something for him and that's what the budget allowed.  For the price tag they are a good pack but not on the same level as the big 3.

xXx Archery down by Longview(He is on the Oregon side) carries Kifarus in stock. I think that's it. Though there's a ton of guys in the area that have Kifarus...contact FillTheFreezer, he's in Puyallup.  He has a few frames and a few bags he'd let you play with I'm sure!

thanks, tried on duckslayers pack yesterday and really liked it.  Questions for you pack pros!  What is the big difference between the Hunter frame and the ultralight frame?  The ultralight is cheaper.  Also, the dt1 bag compared to the AMR bag??? Thanks

Personally, and I could be wrong....but i thought the ultra light was to flimsy....the dang thing bends backwards!  Granted it would never be a issue 90% of the time...i just prefer a stiffer frame

Pluss it's not much of a weight savings

thats kinda what I was thinking, figure less weight would equal less carrying capacity.  What's your favorite bag??

Actually, Aron Snyder has carried over 150 lbs, several times with the Ultra light. The Hunter frame is probably the best fit for most people though. The ultra light uses carbon arrows for stays while the Hunter uses composite, or aluminum, depending on what you want.

The difference between the DT1 and the AMR is size and the DT1 has pockets on the sides, where the AMR doesn't. The AMR is larger and so are the 2 pockets the front. They both compress down flat, and are great packs.

I'm kind of obsessed with things being water proof and simple so beings the zippers arnt waterproof zippers on the bags that kinda leaves them out....the camp bag looks cool and I will prolly buy it but when I called and talked to kifaru they said I should prolly stick with a normal dry bag for packrafting...but when the only thing in the forcast is rain that camp bag would be nice ! Sunny summer trips I could see running the tahr since it has the load shelf built into it, doesn't need a lid, and can attach the spotter pocket on the back

Just my thoughts....i have about 600 different ideas in my head for what the perfect pack arrangement will be so I'm going to play around a bit

I was looking at the ultralight but the weight savings just weren't enough for me to go for it and I knew the hunting frame would be best for heavy loads. I'll look up the numbers

Ok ultralight: 2lbs 12ounces
Hunter frame: 3lbs 5 ounces.

So it's only 9 ounces heavier, and if you look at the pictures of the ultralight frame, it's really flat almost like a board. Where the hunter frame has a nice contour and IMO would pack a load way nicer and more comfortably. But I've never tried the ultralight so I can't say for sure. Arrows bend. The composite stays are a lot more rigid.
