Idaho elk
« on: February 26, 2016, 06:36:10 PM »
For all of you guys that have done it and are willing to share. What's the cost? What's their deer elk combo cost? How have wolves impacted hunting? What weapon is the best? Just really looking for any info here. My cousin and I are looking into going DIY.

It's about 1000 bucks for tags, the rest of the trip is up to you on how spendy you wana make it

I think the general view of the wolf situation is pretty good really....most people say everything is coming back strong and that's definitely the case from what I've personally witnessed

I don't know if there's a "best weapon" but I'd do archery for elk and rifle for deer......i do all rifle but if washington wasn't so killer that's the route I'd go

Lots of tags available, better put your time in before you invest in the tags.  There is a chance to kill a bull every year only if you have the time.  You may see nothing for a week and then the next day your bull is there.  It's not easy or guaranteed, but better than Washington.

Also depending on the units you are considering and weapon choice, you may be too late to get a tag for this year as some of the units do sell out.  Others don't have a quota on the number of tags.  The wolf tag is only like an extra 30 bucks so in my opinion it's worth buying.  I think with just the elk tag it was right about 700.

I think we would say no to wa for the year and hunt both deer and elk. Wolf tags would be a for sure for both of us.

I think that's the same boat I'm in this year, at least for elk. I haven't decided what I intend on doing for deer hunting yet, but the last few years I have been more in to elk hunting anyways so I'll just wait and see what kind of time off I can get later this fall.

A archery elk tag is $590 if you buy it in Idaho. You get charged a $20 convenience fee if you buy online. That also includes a archery stamp.
