alaska salmon and halibut

would LIKE TO TAKE MY WIFE FISHING up there but there are so many to choice from it is rather confusing any  recommendatios

You end up paying for what you get, a lot of the lesser expensive charters only go out to grounds and get butts from 15-25 lbs. If you can hook into a long haul or overnighter you stand a greater chance to hook a really nice one. IMHO

I have been going to Alaska for 20+ years and have fished several ok places. To me nothing beats Sitka fishing with  http://islandviewcharters.com/. His lodge is top notch and the captains are the cream of the crop. Nothing like sitting in one of those hot tubs after fishing with a growler from the Baranof Brewing company. We always come home with plenty of fish and a great variety.

I took a Navy tug out of Adak for a day of fishing back in the '90s - a moral, welfare, and recreation cruise of sorts.  I caught a hundred pounder out in big seas. 

My recommendation - join the Navy and see what happens.  Have fun!

 Go with IslandView out of Sitka. I have been going there for around 10 years now. They have a great lodge that I'm sure your wife would like. And what 3boys said, nice hot tub. They even give you a car for your stay. Just me but the 20 to 40 pound halibut is better eating than the bigger ones.
 No I don't work for them. Island view is just a class act.

Alaska is a big State with more fishing opportunities than you could fish in a lifetime.  Where and when is the starting pt when planning for an Alaskan outing.

ReelClass w/Derek Floyd would be a great choice.

While I agree there is a lot of opportunity in Alaska overall, southeast is a great family destination due to the availability of quality saltwater fishing in protected or semi protected water and the variety of activities beyond fishing.

Once you get that shoulder sorted feel free to reach out if you want a more in depth discussion on Sitka. I spent four years up there working for a different outfit.
