Nice animal, did you strip the velvet? I've got a couple like that, dried the velvet on one and it stunk so bad I put it in the rafters of the shop for 6 months. The other I stripped and then rubbed mud all over it and wiped it off and it looks pretty nice, you would have never known that the buck didn't do it. Little tip I got off of watching Eastmans when they where caribou hunting.

Once again nice animal...
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Nicely done, Washington?

Teacherman, that is smokin' advice.  I shot a mulie in 2005 that still had a buch of velvet hanging off it.  I rubbed blood all over it (since I know that is what generally gives them most of the color when they rub naturally), but most of it must have soaked in, because I have the deer mounted in my trophy room and the antlers still look pretty white.  If I am ever in that situation again, I will try the mud thing.  By the way, those shiny white antlers, with the sun glinting off them really faked me out (also, I was looking at a profile of him and couldn't see the spread).  I thought I shot a big mulie, LOTS of ground-shrinkage on that guy...

yep in Washington ! idont have to worry about the velvet i hope, because i took it to my taxadermist. he was going to inject the velvet with something and it should like it did when i shot it. that is the biggest buck i shot so i want him on my wall just liked he looked the day he died. by the way i hit him right in the spine with a thunder head and he did not go anywhere i got pretty lucky   !
