North Idaho elk sheds help!!
« on: April 09, 2016, 06:05:53 PM »
I took the girlfriend over to north idaho this weekend shed hunting and can't find squat. We hiked miles through the thickest nastiest stuff, but only cut 1 set of fresh tracks. We were around 3000ft in elevation before we cut the tracks, did the elk not come low this year? Tommorow is our last day here before we head back to school, Any help would be awesome, and greatly appreciated.

Are you serious?  You are spending the weekend in the woods with your girlfriend.  Who cares if you find any sheds?

I know is sounds perfectly obvious, but you have to find the elk first before you can find the sheds.  It was 80F in town (Cd'A) today, I am sure the hills are getting warm quickly.  How green is everything??  Have you checked the major burns from last year?

I saw 5 Bulls yesterday that were all still packing. I think one had shed that was running with 3 of them. Could be part of the problem.

More miles...  I know of people picking them up in their usual spots...  Just got to find those spots which in north Idaho takes a lot of time and miles..
