Golden Retriever Field Lines
« on: July 11, 2016, 02:52:51 PM »
Hi everyone, looking for the hunting line Golden breeders on this site.

I just moved here from Wisconsin and will be adding a duck hunting and backpacking amigo to the team next spring (2017). Trying to figure out what kennels produce the best field lines in the state.

So far, I've heard that Sky River out of Eburg is tough to beat.

Thanks in advance!

You may want to talk to @lokidog I belive he will be having a litter this fall.

Haven't heard of them but brassfire is local and Gunn in BC would be my first phone calls.

Paul, Skyriver was Tiffany Taylor and Choral Greer. Just Choral doing it now I believe.

Yes Brassfire would be my first call for a field golden too.

Two things to keep in mind with Goldens. Lots of elbow dysplasia so make sure you get clearances for several generations and CANCER is very very prevalent so make sure there are lots of long lived dogs in the line.

Val & Jay Walker's Trieven Kennels out of Medford used to have, hands down, the best ones around here.  They are in Wyoming now.

Oh ok that rings the bell.

Jean grammar has a real nice young male I trained with last two days. Not sure his breeding but I can ask. Also her derby dog Ryder moves good.

I'm just now reading this (and lokidog didn't get the message  :dunno:) but I guess it doesn't matter since our waiting list is a mile long and we have no puppies available.  Litter due in about three days though so prepare to see lots of photos!   :chuckle:

It sounds like others have named all good breeders.  I'm not sure if you are still looking, but I might have other recommendations.  You might look on www.gundogbreeders.com

If you are looking for more field goldens go to entry express and become familiar with the search feature on the site. You can look at trials, find a few goldens and search their event history and actually see their record and get a real good indication of their abilities. There aren't a bunch of real successful and proven goldens out there. Finding breeders with a good tract record of success in field work is even harder. It takes most years of breeding to get it right.

My Hasty's Annie Oakley was out of Val & Jay Walker's kennel when they were in Medford.  At one time there were five or six chocolate AKC FC & Canadian Field Trial Champions and four of them were out of Annie's offspring.  One was out of Hasty's Elsie Smith x M&M's Cooper and two were out of Bower Lake Ben and I forget the dam on the forth one.

Their breeding programs have always been second to none.

Glad to hear you found a litter to go after.

Just a note, we will likely breed Amber one last time next Spring as we were hoping to keep a pup from this last batch but decided not to since there were only four.  All are going to working homes this time around and two get to go on a plane ride to UT, different owners though.
