Manson Late Hunt Roads/Weather?
« on: August 02, 2016, 10:03:01 AM »
Drew the late season tag for Manson, looking to get some input on what to expect weather wise and road wise for Nov. 1-10.

Went about 45 miles NW from the city of Manson this weekend and hiked way into the wilderness, what a haul. Planning on hunting back in there come the late hunt. Worried about getting caught not being able to get back to the truck if a bad snow comes through. Let alone getting off those peaks in the truck.

Is this accessible come November for the late hunt? What about General Season?

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I'm no expert on that area but did help on a late tag in 14 I believe it was.  Roads were in good shape for most all of the hunt, I suppose it could change at any point in time though, most years I think you are ok though.

Congrats on a great tag. You'll see plenty of bucks so be picky. It's a tag you'll remember for a long time to come.

Should be ok. I hunted tell the last day of the season and the roads were fine. Very little snow in 2014. You need snow to move the bucks down. No snow up high makes a tough hunt. Bring chains just in case there is ice. Some pretty steep roads with cliffs on the sides. Don't want to slide backwards.

Definitely need to pack chains, most years it will be passable for many miles, even if the pass into the Methow valley is snowed in.  If you get enough snow that the Grade Creek Rd is impassable by chained up 4x4, strongly recommend getting on the lake in a boat, the glassing from the lake is awesome when there is heavy snow up high.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
