i drew a clockum cow tag this year, never really thought about it but im thinking after this thread that ill be taking gramps .32 special. 170 grn ammo.  anyone hunt blewet pass area, can i get close enough for the ole open sight lever action on a cow?  dad hunted there last year so he knows the area somewhat, i havent been there, or am i better off to take something more accurate at 200 yrd plus?

That's cool!  I would just go for it, don't second guess and play what ifs in your head.  I loved bringing the .32 special that was passed down to me on last year's moose hunt with my dad.   I'll be bringing it on this years moose hunt as well.

Been getting interested in a lever gun.  Another year or two and I should be able to start deer hunting again annually, not just elk.The place I want to try for deer looks seriously thick, so something short and fast handling would advantageous.  I'm liking the looks of the BLR takedown in .358Win.  I want a round that'll drop a deer quick as tracking in that area might be tough, plus there's likely bears in that area, and a close range bear encounter isn't a time to minimalist on caliber.  I shoot 9.3x62mm for elk, so the recoil isn't a barrier.

although not a lever action my granddad had a 35 whelen I wanted pump action.
