Elk in GMU 627/633
« on: September 21, 2016, 12:15:42 PM »
I drew a muzzle loader doe tag in GMU 633 for Oct 1-9.  I plan on being out in the area the entire week and was wondering if anyone has hunted elk in that unit or the neighboring unit 627.  Reason being, the special permit hunt and elk season overlap and I am hunting with a partner that doesn't have the doe permit but would like to maximize our possibilities.  I have been scouting 633 and should have no trouble with a doe but have not seen any sign of elk in the area.  While we are out in the area it wouldn't be that hard to check out gmu 627 if its worth it.  Any knowledge or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
-Doug

Very very few elk in 633. I'd focus on trying to kill a buck or two with the smoke pole buddy good luck

Wouldn't waste your time trying to find elk in either unit. 627 does not hold an elk population. 633 has a handful at best. Focus on deer.

Thanks for the input, i figured this much.  Hopefully I can fill my doe tag early in 633 and head elsewhere to help my buddy get his first muzzle deer.  Just sucks that 633 is not open for regular season deer at the same time I want to hunt my special permit.  I suppose he can still hunt cougar and bear at the same time with me though!  It sure would be nice to be in a unit with deer and elk because of the overlapping seasons though!
