I'm just curious do they charge you an access fee to walk in there or is it a courtesy? Sounds like the guy is leasing it so he can make money? Just trying to figure this out.

It's free to walk in no pass required.

No different than a big cattle ranch operation, just this a tree farm. You can't expect, the farmer to put his operation on hold so you can hunt. Yes it's frustrating, but consider your self lucky that Popes isn't charging an access fee, or worse yet close their land entirely.

So, in other words these guys who leased access to pick brush actually have more right to be in than you do who is accessing the property for free. Theyre doing their "job" no matter how you look at it. These guys make their living picking brush.
many times I've walked miles into a hunting spot only to have a hunter with keyed access drive right up to me. I can't be upset over it. I could have ponied up the $$$ and bought the key. Lessons learned.

How can you make a living picking brush? What do they do with it?

I'd keep hunting it, maybe get dropped off so the guy thinks your not there, maybe you'll catch him poaching? But now that people know where your at and there might be a good buck in there, you might have more competition. Good luck.

That's a bummer, sorry.

I had a couple vans drive past me just last night. That's part of hunting private timberlands. Learn to work around them, that deer isn't gone he will still be there.

I used to get frustrated by brush pickers driving into a walk in I like. I kept hunting it and I'm not sure them being in there doesn't help sometimes. If they are working an area I planned to hunt I regroup and go to where the deer exit when disturbed. Bummer on the timing though. Stay after that buck, he's still there

The best trick is to get off the road and then you don't see vehicles.

While i can understand the frustration, I deal with this every day of every hunting season, I have had people rip into me for being behind a locked gate, IT'S MY JOB!!!! I for the life of me can't figure out why a guy would want to make enemys with a guy who has a key to the gate? We have packed guys up to where they want dropped off and told them you get something, get it to the road and either a crew memeber or log truck will get it to the gate, which we have done several times. totally understand the frustration and if he is just out screwin around then thats a bad deal.
