Hunting MT
« on: August 30, 2017, 11:18:56 AM »
I get to go home and hunt again this year.  My friends have a ranch on the Missouri river. He has been seeing some good bucks this year. Last year we saw 50 to 60 bucks a day. This year sounds like it's going to be better. Good luck

I'm headed back to MT again this year.  I got a tag off the alternates list.  Can't wait.

Heading to MT Friday elk opener the 2nd.  If I work 9 days in September I will be surprised.  Made a decision to be in the woods all of September to get the full September elk experience in 2017.  Full Draw fellas!

Big Game Combo.  The first number I saw under my name was 80.  A few days later it was 104.  Then it jumped to 169.  Then I check the other day and it said I was 4.  So I don't know why it went from 80 to 169, that doesn't make any sense.  If I had really cared about getting a tag I would of called and asked.  But I was excited when I happened to check and saw it was 4 and then a couple days later got the letter in the mail saying I could buy a tag.

For our license and tag, do we just have to have that green tag that says general deer license? Wasn't there a conservation stamp or something?

I can't get them to load so no pic. Sorry. The rut has not started yet bucks are all bunched. The temp is dropping over there now so that should help. Mom and dad said they had snow yesterday. The deer population is up so don't worry you guys should have something to shoot at. Good luck

Rut doesn't start until the second week in November- usually. Everything seems to be a bit later then usual this year. Bucks are still in stag groups or solo.

I have a buddy that lives in Glasgow and he said today the little bucks were acting rutty.  Chasing a little, a little lip curling, and butt sniffing.

My dad and I are on our way home from SE MT. It was a successful trip with him taking his first antelope (he crawled through a cactus patch and about blew the deal with his hooting and hollaring - good thing the wind was blowing); he also took a nice 4x4 mule deer on block mgt and I after hunting my arse off and passing up lots of small 2 and 3 pt bucks finally got the drop on a decent whitetail buck last night in the pines. We left two doe tags unfilled just ran out of time and have to get home for work. It was our first trip to MT and we had a great time.

They are just starting from what I’ve seen.  Lots of bucks moving throughout the day, but still small bucks and does together. . We saw 23 bucks today, but just holding out for a good one. 5 Days left.

I left on Fri the 3rd and they were rutting hard where I was at ... I was tagged out on Monday the 5th and spent the day Tuesday taking Pics and watching the rut. plenty of sniffing, Chasing and posturing seemed the rut was in full swing to me.

We hunted north central Montana on Nov 6th-10th and the Muley rut was still pretty slow.  I only saw one hot doe the entire week and the big bucks had not mixed into the doe herds yet.  The Whitetail rut was just starting.  It seems to be a late rut year from what I have seen in the past.

On our way back right now. Rut was in full swing. Bucks chasing does like crazy! Passed up a lot of bucks and got a little excited on this one before I looked him over good. Still very pleased with him tho! My partner and I both tagged out.

I hoped a plane in seattle got off in greatfalls. Dad picked me up went to fish and game, of course they were closed. Didn't have a tag all weekend burns 2 days and the morning of the 3 day. Bought the tag headed to my friends ranch looked over 15 to 20 smaller bucks.  Saw this one looked at. Fronts and backs matched well. I told my friends I'm going to shoot him. He of course bagged and pleaded to hold out for a bigger one and I dumped him. He is not bad scores 161
