480 Ruger video
« on: September 24, 2017, 12:41:49 AM »
I finally got around to getting a first person POV video of my 480 Ruger. I have the gun zeroed at 50 yards with a 275gr Barnes bullet, so the 400gr Speer FPs that I "plink" with actually hit about 8" high at 50 yards. I have to hold an inch or two below the 10" gong which is a little tricky when the gong is swinging! :chuckle: I'll admit though that I start missing after about the 3rd cylinder I put through this gun unless I take a break. Ever since I damaged my wrist (from shooting ) my hand will start to go numb if I shoot too much without taking a break. I'm only good for about 50 shots from a 45 ACP before I have to take a breather.

The last clip is from when I did my usual dry fire drill. I load 4 rounds and then spin the cylinder. It's just like the dry fire drills I'll do with a new shooter who's developed a flinch.

The 480's just a gentle nudge compared to the 45-70 BFR that I had before! I ran 440gr bullets at around 1600 fps from the 45-70 compared to the 400's at 1225fps from the 480. That 45-70 is the reason my right wrist is all messed up; I miss that gun........ :chuckle:

It did after well over 1000 full power loads from that gun. I finally went to the Dr when the numbness and tingling didn’t go away after a few days. I had stress fractures in my hand and wrist and developed carpal tunnel syndrome.

I stopped shooting handguns entirely for almost a year and then slowly worked back up. The 480 is the largest caliber revolver I should be shooting with any frequency. So I switched to the bolt action pistols and now I can shoot even bigger guns like the CheyTac without doing any serious damage!

Next time set up with a backstop please.  I have had target shooters send bullets over my head way too many times.  Cool video.

That’s actually all private property in the background. Anybody back there without permission probably would have been shot at by the owner anyways.  :chuckle:

Good safety reminder though.

"Surprisingly fun, you just don't shoot a whole lot of them"  this is a very true statement.  I have a 4in S&W 500 and it is a lot of fun to shoot, BUT, it's not really something you want to spend all day shooting.

Nice.  I need that amount of property in my life.
