Help on tanning a moose hide please?
Michelle_Nelson:
How bad are the cuts. You can just tan the whole thing at once. Just practice on that deer hide. Befor you get ready to work on it give me a shout. I will tell you what to buy and where to buy it.
First off you are going to need some salt. Best find a feer store that sell "Fine Plain White Feeder Salt" It has to be plain salt. DON'T get the brown mineral salt. Get a 50lbs bag it only costs about $5 or so.

A moose is a tough one Sam. As michelle said they are thick, let me say VERY THICK. You have spots where over 3/4 to an inch of skin must be removed. This is a "fun" project, but has to be done in a timely manner. I would definately try it, as the alternative is zip. There are some great tanning methods out there when you get the time, and they aren't that much. I'm sure Michelle can get you on the right track, or I can.
