Cottontail vs European rabbit

Is there a specific feature that helps to quickly differentiate the cottontail rabbit from the European rabbit? Since the season on the Euros is open year around and there's no bag limit, it's a good way to get out and hunt sometimes,  till the general seasons start. But those two look so similar, it's hard to tell the difference within seconds to make a shot.
