Where are they?
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:53:35 PM »
I went out on may 1st with my boys 7 and 4 at Oak creek. Found NOTHING. had people all but push my boys over for the one three point shed we saw and one other guy behind us saw what happened and said unfortunatly it's always like that up thereand offered to help the boys find a shed but he was headed up steeper stuff then I wanted the boys on. We got there at midnight and when in when they opened the gate hoping to find something stayed for 3-4 hours luckely i brought a set of old deer sheds with me. I waited till no one was around and tossed them into the sagebrush and let my boys find them. Does anyone have a spot thats not so crowded doesent need to be a great spot i would like to let the boys find a set next year though. Does the wenas get hit hard? I've never shed hunted before picked up a few pairs aver the years while hunting but thats it.

sheds are getting harder and harder to find...i've never found an elk shed, and don't know where to tell you to go, but i will tell you people are guarding their spots seemingly with their lives.

I have found a set of matching 5x5, guessing 180ish mule deer antlers in the sage in the wenas during a muzzleloader hunt a few years back. never have been there in the spring though.

I was thinking maybe the draws going into umtanum creek might be good for some muley sheds this spring. I dont really care what they find and worse case we have a good hike in the outdoors and probably see some animals. Might even give the oak creek thing a try just not right at midnight. I don't want my kids to get the impression that that is what hunting and the outdoors is all about.
