Spikes

So, how did the search for those true spikes and other spikes go so far this year? I haven’t seen any in archery season.

We found a bunch in a certain eastside GMU but I am staying tight lipped about it. Still ML season to go and I know some tag holders.

I've been focused on the high buck until now so I haven't done any actual scouting for elk.  I do have a couple on my cameras though.  Feeling hopeful!

I've seen a few spikes out there, also ran into a big bull to. Was very cool to show my daughter a big elk for the first time, she was super excited!

My guess is.....not so well.  I spent the entire archery season with a quality permit, never saw a spike, lots of camps in the area, never saw a dead elk in any camp or vehicle. At end of season I did find a hide in one camp, and a boned out ribcage along a road in the area, that was it.

My boys and I saw a total of 2 true spikes and that’s it. Did not see a single elk hanging in any of the camps this year. It may have been different if the 300’s were cows/anterless at the start of the season and the true spikes late in the season for archery. Did have a last day, last hour opportunity on some cows but did not connect.

Seeing quite a few on the west side.   Even a 2 point elk.  No spikes on the east where it would count though.

Saw one spike in my scouting.  Hope he stays in the same area.  When I don't have a special permit and I want to hunt elk, the spike only gets me in the mountains and out hunting.  Every general season it is camping with guns and the joke is we are hunting unicorns.  I know of hunting luck and I won't find a spike bull in my back yard so there is a chance of notching the tag.

Saw two spikes on the east side, connected on a cow. Cow/Spike unit. Also saw an unrecovered spike. Felt bad for whoever couldn't find that one.

My buddy Brad has been waiting for a spike. Maybe this year.
