Entiat Road Buck
« on: November 18, 2018, 08:31:54 AM »
I had never stepped foot in the unit until this season. With competing priorities I could only hunt weekends. I tried to maximize my time in the field by sleeping in my truck and being as mobile as possible. Scouted one weekend and hunted five days. Met ThrottleJockey and some other good guys on dirt roads. Drove most of the roads in the unit. Saw 100+ deer including a couple nice 3x3’s and a solid 3x4 which I passed because I had set a goal for myself to take a mature animal or a spike on the last day. The numbers of 1-2 year old bucks seemed very strong.

The hunt was perhaps not one you might dream of, but it was on for the books. A struggle with success in the  end.

This buck died the afternoon of the fifth day, fifty yards from the road where he was standing, tending a doe, when I turned the corner.

Glad my road buck came on a solo hunt.

Al

That's a great buck no matter where it was.  Solo next to the road makes it that much sweeter.  Way to get it done on the last day.

Beautiful buck for sure.

Congrats man! Did you have the little black truck with the soft topper? I was in the lifted white Chevy and the one that told you that you were crazy to be sleeping in the back when it was so cold :chuckle:. Congrats on a beautiful buck!

We did; the day after we ran into you guys we went back and killed a buck we had spotted earlier that day. Beautiful boxy 4x4 with eyeguards. Super fun hunt. It was my first time in the unit and we had a lot of fun glassing and sizing up rutting bucks. Love to do it again sometime.

You get them when you can, and enjoy hunting.
Its not all about the result, but its great to punch a tag.
