Pyramid Lake Lahontan Cutthroat Trout?

Anyone here been down to Pyramid Lake in Nevada for Lahontan Cutthroat trout? Thinking about an extended weekend down there here shortly and was wondering what you thought about surf fishing there if you've fished it before.

I'm thinking about it. Trying to decide what weekend to go right now and then got to ask the boss for time off.

Looks like a 11 hour drive. Gear should be pretty simple. Just like back in the great lakes fishing in the surf for Chinook, brown trout, lake trout, and steelhead.

Are you bringing a ladder? I want to witness this ladder dragging fishing. I can't picture it in my head.

I might bring a ladder just in case, but I don't plan on using it. The ladder is beneficial for guys using a flyrod to enable them to cast further, but I plan on just bringing spinning gear so the ladder is not needed. Unless there is something I'm missing, but I highly doubt it.

Might check out Lenore and save some fuel, do not think they netted all of them

I’ve fished it many times.  7/8 - 1oz spoons   Black/white and black/green worked best when I was in Nevada.  Don’t forget a tape measure.   Pelican point and popcorn was my fav spots.   Take lots of pics. 
You may want to call a guide or two down there. It’s been 13/14 years since I fished it but I remember guys saying they could pretty much guarantee “teeners” 13-19 lb range depending on time of year.    Most the fish I caught from shore where in the no keep size range.

Interesting to hear you were using such heavy spoons. I wonder why that is. I planned on using 1/3 oz little Cleo's.

Not sure how much measuring or picture taking I'll do as I'll be going solo. I'll also be releasing them anyway.

As for Lake Lenore, maybe another time. There are some other sites I want to visit along the way, so I'm packing more into a 4-day weekend than just fishing. Looks like I'll be there Feb 28 to March 3.

Some of those spots you need to cast way out!!! Some areas you got several hundred ft of chest deep water and those nice hogs like to sit right on the edges of the drop offs.  Most of my hits where just as you cross the transition zone where deep water meets shallow water.    It’s a fun fish. There are some bigger Lahontan cutts in Washington than often found at Lenore, but someone on here might shoot me.  Lol.  Of course they probably came from Pyramid.

I can think of 2 other lakes I used to enjoy fishing for Lahontans, although 7-8 lbs is more like what we caught, not "teener"

Think twitching for coho. Same set up and technique. 1oz jig, colors vary with conditions.
