No they don't.  If a turkey had a developed sense of smell, we'd never kill them.  They can pinpoint where you are calling from with their hearing.  Their sight is the equivelent of a human looking through a pair of 8 power binocs and they see color.

Actually I am not  sure...Just to be sure..Years ago.. I was one of the hunters that bought "Tinks Dr. Toms Turkey Scent"  I tried it and I think I found out what giblets are for?  LOL  Who knows for sure..Some times when out there chasing that damn bird there is a sixth sense they use to detect danger...maybe its scent...Of course all of my Fat Sweaty buddies are killing birds so probably not.   :chuckle:

A turkey can see 300 degrees and have eyes like an eagle. They always see me before I see them.

Correct....a turkey has eyes on the side of their head and subsequently an approximate 270 degree range of vision .  All they have to do is move their head slightly one way or the other and they can see everything in a complete 360 around them.

Oh...and there is an old saying that sums up the fact that wild turkeys are paranoid ............

Sure glad they cant smell! I usually put on skin so soft as a skeeter repellant and that stuff is floofy smelling! Cant stand it, but works on keeping the bugs off! Turkeys can sure see any movement well.

Ditto on these responses.  I love the fact that I don't have to worry about my stench when I'm out hunting turkeys like I do when I'm chasing elk and deer.  However, their eye sight will burn you every time if you're not careful.

I'm extremely disappointed to find out my "Hen-In-Heat" spray is worthless (kiddin').  I will note that I have been busted several times by whitetail deer, so a little scent control may not hurt (don't pick up any gloves Yelp).

My 3 basic rules to turkey hunting (1) don't let them see you, (2) don't let them see you, and (3) don't let them see you.

A good reason to consider scent control.  My son and I use it so as not to bust deer and other animals alerting the turkeys.  Can definitely make a difference if trying to get in close in any situation.  Yelp....keep our secret, a secret.   :hunter:
