28.2-POUND PIKE CAUGHT IN ROOSEVELT’S SANPOIL ARM

Quote
The largest pike yet was caught this month on Lake Roosevelt, a 28.2-pound egg-laden female, and it was a lot further down the 150-mile-long reservoir than nearly all other northerns captured so far.

The 43.3-inch nonnative invasive fish was netted in the Sanpoil River arm, the mouth of which is just 17 miles from Grand Coulee Dam.

Quote
Subsequent to our posting this story, the Colvilles’ McClellan told the Spokesman Review that at the current pace down the upper Columbia, ” … we think they are maybe three years away from being down below Chief Joseph Dam.”

Was just thinking about posting about pike in Roosevelt. Been thinking about getting up there and trying to do my part in getting rid of a few of these fish. Only tip I have got is bait under a bobber and wait for the second hit cause the first is just to stun their prey. Has anybody on her caught any in Roosevelt?

My cousin and I caught just shy of 30 between us last summer in the course of three different trips. We were fishing from Hunters up to the Daisy area. You'll find them hanging out by submersed trees, weedy creek inlets or any weedy bay. We hammered them on 4"-6" white paddle tail swimbaits on a 1/2 oz swimbait head.

Maybe they should offset the predation and  open up some more habitat and spawning area for these endangered salmon and steelhead  :dunno: :dunno:

I have also done exceedingly well for musky trolling big spinner baits. Bright during the day, dark early in the morning or at dusk. You can cover a lot of ground trolling long edges or big flats.

Nice!
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
Psalm 144.1
