Update - neither - Yogi or BooBoo
« on: June 08, 2019, 08:13:28 AM »
***ID’d by a biologist, Mountain Lion***

I am not a bear hunter but I came across this looking for mushrooms. Don’t know if the bear’s size can be judged by the scat. Anyone have any thoughts???

Looks like a small pile, so I'd say small bear. I've seen piles that are as big as a hubcap..
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

We, as hunters in this state, are to hung up on bear size. Thats why we get two tags.  Shoot the first legal bear you see. ...be ethical of course.....then go get that second tag and look for a masher.  Looks like good scat to me. Hunt it up and keep looking for the shrooms as well.

Probably the best advice I've seen.

Shoot the first one you see save a fawn. Called for a problem bear a week ago. The state does not care. Ive got a masher of a bear tearing my one place up the state does not care. Actually said they have no traps. Trophy bear hunting is like trophy coyote or ground squirrel hunting. why?

they don't care bc they say bears are territorial and when one bear leaves, another one just comes in and takes over and the cycle repeats itself and nothing changes...at least that is what I was told so unless it is seriously endangering the public they won't do much about it.

side rail question on the Morels.

I see you cut off the stems.  We got some from a commercial outfit and they also had the stems removed.  Are they not good to eat?

Not really sure. It is only my second season picking them. That is how I was shown how to harvest them.

I cut the stems like that then rinse with salt water to get the worms out. Harder to get a good rinse with the stems on. And they arent very good anyway..
