Can't wait. Finish loading the final items tonight when I get home. Then one more day of work. Still My favorite hunt of the year, even if I already punched My tag. Hope I can get the Boy and My friend on a good one or Two.

Late modern Blacktail has been a 4 day Thursday opener for 30 years.

Agreed, it just somehow I got the 12th stuck in my head and didn't think of the day of the week.

The 80's were a bit fuzzy for me!

 :chuckle: :chuckle:  You too??

So if you believe in lock down, then I would say the last two days was a prime example of decreased deer activity during the peak of the rut.  I got zero deer on my cams in the last two days, which hadn't happened previously since early October.  Shouldn't last long (hopefully!).

I agree, I haven't gotten more than 2 or 3 bucks a day on my cameras. But this morning I went to the property and saw 2 bucks and a doe stand in a 30 yard circle for an hour. The bucks are definitely on lock down with the does in my area. Should be a fun hunt tomorrow!

I'm still fuzzy from the 70s and the 80s  :chuckle:.  Checked a few cams on Monday and had absolutely nothing on them, I mean nothing... no does, no bucks, no yotes, no bobcat, no blue jays.  Nothing had moved on the old skid road in for probably two days either... Definitely a lull in the action in the deer woods in my area also.  I betcha a buck (see what I did there) that'll they'll be out about in force starting.... NOW.  Here we go boys, let's go getsum late season BT bucks in the late season!

Hopping to have my son get his first deer! It will be one hell of a year since I took my first deer this year!

hope someone hangs out around the Kapowsin Tavern....there's a dam 3 or 4 pt hanging around within 100 yards of there I've almost hit driving to work twice this past week.  getting tired of dodging him.  he's not real tall only topping his ears but he's got enough horns for someone to shoot.  pretty cool this morning as he stood in front of me with his breath/vapor coming out of each nostril kinda like a locomotive

Heading out in the morning,
Last year had a doe stare me down at 10-15 yards in the cold. Blew out a huge bunch of vapor trying to get my scent but the wind was wrong for her. The last one she blew out and walked right through it into the bushes.  Was buck only unit so I could just watch and wait to see if there was a follower. but it was cool being that close getting to see the snorting that I have heard in the past,  usually before they run away.
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

I went out this morning and will be back this afternoon; wash, rinse, repeat for the next three days. Starting tomorrow I may stay out all day long (if its rainy). My husband already filled his tag, so he's with me for the company :). Saw absolutely nothing this morning and heard no gunshots (GMU 627). I took work off for this.

Had a big 2 pt cross the road hot on some does last night. Going to have to try and find him this weekend.

Hit the woods this morning. Spotted 2 does in a cut I was sitting on at dawn, they went and bedded next to the woods. I went down to them and got a little to close. They blew a little and trotted a little ways away. I then hit the timber and walked parallel to them as they were out in the cut. They are oblivious to my new location and the wind is perfect. I'm sitting there behind a tree about 80 yards from em and then they start moving up the cut. I'm scoping them and then all out of nowhere there is a fork buck trotting right on their tails. I almost squeezed in a neck shot but the timber blocked my view. My heart was racing and I sprinted to get a better view.  Sadly the deer never did stay still long enough for me to get a clear shot.

Looking back I probably could have shot him in the butt with my 7mm just to slow him down and then finish him off... There is a good reason you're not allowed to talk to yourself in the past, else this morning's me would be strangled.

You never realize how much you want a blacktail buck until he just barely escapes your grasp!!  >:(
